Photo story by Anish Ghosh

Today we have Anish here. He wants to share his photo story with us. A sad story, yet a true one.

Here it goes.

This picture symbolize the agony and the struggle of the tribals of Orissa. I went there to shoot some tribal life and when I saw them, I got very confused whether to take photographs or to help them with whatever I can. Hope I am able to convey my message through the photograph.

Chaitra sale photo walk

Some moments are here to stay, and some just fade away. Just like the chaitra photo walk that took place on 14th of this month has left some good and everlasting memories that we will cherish forever.

It all started at 4:30 pm. We all gathered in front of the star theatre near hatibagan and walked until shyam bazaar, in the way we visited charak mela at Beadon Street and had fun on the road by clicking photos of anything and everything.

Some got hungry and gulped few golgappas, some were thirsty and had sodas and some smoked their heart out!

We walked, we got tired, we sat on the sidewalks, we clicked photos of one another, we laughed, most of all we shared the moments together.

We ended the day by visiting Mitra cafe at shyambazaar.

Some photos of the day..

Busy street.

Charak Mela..

Photo Stories by Ayan Pathak

Today's post will concentrate on Photo story and we have 3 interesting photo stories to share with you all, and all are by Ayan Pathak. He is an active member of ODOP and is a good photographer! So here it goes.

Story 1

I spent most of the time by clicking photos in various places. What I need (to work on it) is a partner with me. Partner could be a male or a female. Whatever. I am sharing an experience of a day when I didn't attended classes in the college and went out with two of my friends for photo shoot. We decided to cover the most interesting GOLIZE of North Calcutta. We started walking here & there. After half an hour we found Kumortuli. The timing was before Saraswati Pujo. A long cue of Saraswatis were there. My first experience of Kumortuli. It was great.
In that tour we clicked huge no. of photos. This is one of them. But there was a sad news. When we reached at home one of my friend called me and said Sonakshi Sinha & Ranbir Singh were shooting on the other side of Kumortuli for there upcoming film. Huh!! We missed it.

Story 2

From my childhood I noticed that my parents are interested in plantation. My father was involved in social work. So, he organised a huge no. of Tree Plantation Programme. Most of our road sides are covered with those trees. My father passed away but still those trees help me to remember those lovely memories that I spent with my father. I stay in Kolkata for my studies. My mother stay in Birbhum alone. Last month when I went to my mother, she asked me to go to the roof. I went and saw a huge no. of plants over there. Not only plants of flowers, vegetables, but also some trees like mango, banyan. Probably those plants and trees are the only mates of my lonely mother. This picture is one of them.

Story 3

Cricket!! I saw many cricket grounds. But only in the TV screen. Eden Garden is one of the most beautiful ground and also a pride of Kolkata. I don't have any experience of live cricket in the grounds. One day before the England tour to India one of my DADA (journalist) called me and asked me to come to his house next day morning. It was a suspense for me as he didn't told me the reason. I went. He took me to Eden Garden in his bike. I was speechless when he told me "England Team is going to practice today. You click photos whatever and wherever you want to." This is one of them.

Cricketers Day Out

Hello people,

How's everyone doing? So, today the post will be about, yeah, guessed that right, the cricket match between ODOP - LC vs KKPR.

This Sunday, that is - 7th April, at Maidan, the most awaited match between ODOP - LC vs. KKPR - Friendly Match 2013 took place.

The two teams with 11 members in tow came walking hand in hand braving the heat which slowly got tamed - it seemed that the Sun too was one of the interested spectators. Even though the temperature was a little high, the weather was good, a cool wind started to blow and the humidity was also low compared to other days, so all in all, it was a perfect day for us.

Our cricketers Arin Paul (C), Rimita Sen (VC), Sayan Mitra, Vishal Roy, Sanjay Saha, Anish Ghosh, Priya Dey, Brojonath Banerjee (WK), Subhakar Rudra, Ayan Pathak and Tathagata Das with only one mission - WIN !

The captain for the KKPR team was Buddha Das.  Umpires were Arup Chowdhury and Sarasij Dasgupta.

We won the toss and elected to bat first.

After a few overs and outs, we made 150 runs out of 10 overs.

Once KKPR's time for batting came, they showed pretty good determination in winning the game, but as the time passed by, our hard work did pay off and we came out winning at the end. Whereas we made 150 runs in 10 Overs, they made 43 runs in 9.2 Overs (all out).  All the players gave their best shots and every moment was challenging for both the teams, but all's well that ends well. So, here we are, after winning the match, waiting eagerly for another one that is going to be held on 27th of this month at Rifle club near Bansdroni, be there without fail, timing to be confirmed!

Some photos of the memorable day.

Wednesday 10 April 2013

This is where we begin.

Hello people,

Let's introduce who we are! We are a community or you may say a group consisting of people who are into photography, office goers, independent film makers, home makers, and plain students who manage time to freeze the moments! It's a simple group of people who share a common love that is Photography. We don't like the word complicated, and thus this community - we like it simple.

Let's rewind to the past, and let's start our journey from there.

This post will be a bit long, so bring a cup of coffee and some Kurkure or Lays Chile Limon with you and scroll down every 10 or 15 seconds, depending on how fast you can read!

ODOP [pronounced as (o-dop)], that's what we love to call, consists of numerous activities, they are,

1. "ODOP – LC Photos of the Day"
2. “ODOP – LC Photos of The Month Contest”
3. “ODOP – LC Photo-Lovers Day – Out”
4. “ODOP – LC Adda at CAMARENA Store, E-Mall, Calcutta (Kolkata)”

1. Photos of the day consists of photos captured by members of ODOP, be it cell phone photography, be it D90, or maybe just a point and shoot cam, it doesn't matter here, all it matters is your love for photography. In this category, members are allowed to post one photo per day, and also support and point out any mistakes and areas for improvement in other's photography, this way we all learn and grow together!

2. Photos of the month contest consist of a theme where members or nonmembers participate and send entries to the official mailing ID; their photos are showcased on our Facebook page and judged on the basis of creativity and uniqueness. Based on that, they are given prizes, and the best one becomes photo of the month.

Prize sponsors are:

  •  CAMARENA
  •  Su Khadyam
  •  Kaushik Roy – Amway Distributor
  •  Short Film DVD’s by anonymous.

3. Photo lovers day out is one of the most exciting part. Here all the group members get the opportunity to click together. Clicking photos in the streets all by yourself is pretty tough, everyone knows that! If you are a member, you know what photo lovers day out is!

4. The fourth one that is the Adda which means a place where people gather for conversation, but this Adda is a lot more than what the definition says! It is held once in a month at CAMARENA Store, E-Mall, Kolkata.
